Client Rights and Responsibilities

Your Rights in Therapy

At Attune Somatics, we hold your dignity, autonomy, and emotional safety as foundational to the therapeutic relationship. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Confidentiality
What you share in therapy is held with care. Your therapist is committed to protecting your privacy. Confidentiality will only be breached if there is a significant concern about harm to yourself or others, in line with safety protocols. Therapists also engage in supervision to support your care—this happens in a confidential and respectful way.

2. Informed Consent
You have the right to understand what therapy involves before it begins. This includes your therapist’s qualifications, the methods they use, any potential risks or limitations, and other available options. Your active, informed consent is always sought before proceeding.

3. Respect and Dignity
You will be treated with respect, compassion, and cultural sensitivity—regardless of your background, identity, or life experience. Our trauma-informed framework centers on honoring your unique story.

4. Choice and Autonomy
You can say no to any part of the therapy process that doesn’t feel right to you. If at any point you decide to pause or end therapy, this will be supported with care. A closure session or conversation can be arranged to help bring thoughtful completion to your work together.

5. Access to Your Records
You have the right to access your therapy records. If you wish to review them, your therapist will guide you through the process, including any clinical or legal considerations involved.

6. Quality and Integrity of Care
You deserve professional, ethical, and evidence-informed support. At Attune Somatics, all therapists are highly trained in trauma recovery, emotional regulation, relationships, anxiety, and related concerns. Our work is grounded in compassion, attunement, and continued learning.

7. Clear Communication
You are entitled to transparent information about your therapy—this includes fees, scheduling, goals, and the scope of support. Boundaries around contact outside of sessions help protect the therapeutic space and are maintained through official channels.

8. Equity and Inclusion
We are committed to providing care free of discrimination. All clients are welcomed and supported equally—regardless of race, gender identity, orientation, religion, disability, or any other personal characteristic.

9. Collaboration in Your Care
You are an active partner in your healing. Your goals, preferences, and insights guide the therapeutic direction. Treatment planning is done in collaboration with your therapist, not for you but with you.

Your Role in the Therapeutic Process

Therapy is most effective when both therapist and client show up with intention, presence, and openness. Here’s how you can support your journey:

1. Honest Participation
Your openness—at your own pace—is welcomed. Therapy is a space to bring your full experience, including discomfort, confusion, and questions. If something feels off, we invite you to speak up.

2. Commitment to Sessions
Consistency is a form of care. Your session time is held just for you each week. If your schedule needs to shift, your therapist will do their best to accommodate.

3. Financial Agreements
Clarity around payments supports the therapeutic container.

  • For in-person sessions, payment can be made before or after in cash or via online transfer.

  • For online sessions, payment is required 24 hours in advance to confirm your slot.

  • International clients may use PayFast (with a 6.10% service charge applied).

4. Cancellations & Rescheduling
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. Last-minute changes are considered paid cancellations, as that time is set aside for you.

5. Respecting Boundaries
The therapy space is relational but professional. Between-session contact is limited to designated communication channels. Your therapist will not engage in personal or social interactions outside the scope of therapy unless clearly discussed and agreed upon.

6. Engaging with the Process
You’re encouraged to explore any practices or reflections discussed in therapy. If something feels challenging or unclear, bring it into session—it’s all welcome.

7. Speaking to Safety
If you are feeling overwhelmed, unsafe, or are having thoughts of harm (to yourself or others), it’s important to let your therapist know. We’re here to hold that with you and respond appropriately.

8. Honoring the Container
Following the established therapy guidelines—including session timings, booking practices, and using designated communication channels—helps maintain a supportive and grounded experience for both you and your therapist.
